Kwon, et al. found that adalimumab exposure significantly reduced risk of incident and recurrent acute anterior uveitis (AAU) versus etanercept exposure and bDMARD non-exposure. Furthermore, exposure to etanercept significantly increased risk of incident and recurrent AAU versus bDMARD non-exposure.

This real-world study by Kim, et al. found no significant relationship between continued JAK inhibitor therapy in patients with IMIDs and the risk of subsequent recurrent HZ reactivation. They also found no significant difference in the number of days patients were treated for HZ in the JAK inhibitor continuation and discontinuation groups.

Effectiveness and Safety of Filgotinib in Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Real-life Multicentre Experience

Clin Exp Rheumatol 2024 doi 10.55563/clinexprheumatol/k78ug3 Epub ahead of print

This real-world observational study by La Barbera, et al. confirms that filgotinib is efficacious and safe for use in the management of RA. The authors also report that improvements in clinical and laboratory features were greater in bDMARD-naïve patients with RA.

Tofacitinib treatment resulted in a significant simultaneous improvement of both metabolic and inflammatory parameters in RA patients with T2D. Due to increasing evidence for a link between RA, insulin resistance and T2D Di Muzio et al. investigated if consecutively recruited RA patients on tofacitinib therapy showed improvement in HOMA2-IR values over 6 months.

Researchers reported the safety and efficacy of deucravacitinib over 2 years in patients with chronic plaque PsO. The most frequently reported AEs were nasopharyngitis, URTI, and COVID-19.

This systematic literature review and network meta-analysis provides evidence for bimekizumab being an efficacious option in the management of both b/tsDMARD-naïve and experienced patients across the axSpA spectrum, with similar safety and tolerability to existing treatments.

This multicentre, retrospective study by Hayashi, et al. found no significant differences in efficacy and safety between tofacitinib, baricitinib, peficitinib and upadacitinib in patients with RA. Predictive factors for resistance to LDA achievement included baseline CRP and CDAI for tofacitinib and baseline glucocorticoid dose, baseline CDAI and number of previous b/tsDMARDs for baricitinib.

Rates of MACE and VTE events in patients with RA or PsA treated are consistent across 15 mg and 30 mg doses of upadacitinib, and comparable with active comparators adalimumab and MTX. Several risk factors were also identified for MACE and VTE events in patients with RA.

In this study, Eder, et al. performed a systematic literature review and meta-analysis of RCTs to assess information on participants’ characteristics and rates of American College of Rheumatology response and minimal disease activity by sex. The authors found that the biological sex of patients with PsA influences their response to advanced therapies, but the effect varies by drug class.

This pooled analysis of the Phase 3 PSO-1 and PSO-2 trials shows that deucravacitinib has greater efficacy in treating scalp PsO than placebo and apremilast. At week 16, response rates were greater with deucravacitinib versus placebo or apremilast for scalp-specific Physician Global Assessment 0/1 and Psoriasis Scalp Severity Index. Efficacy was maintained through 52 weeks in patients who received continuous deucravacitinib treatment.
