The Risk and Predictors of Malignancies in Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients in Israel—A Retrospective Electronic Data-Based Study

Findings from a retrospective electronic data-based study, assessing risk of overall and site-specific malignancies for AS patients in Israel, emphasize the importance of maintaining the routine observation of patients with AS to identify the early development of cancer.

Despite the association between chronic inflammation and tumorigenesis having been widely investigated, the association between AS and the risk of cancer is unclear.

To help address this, Kagan, et al. assessed the risks of overall and site-specific malignancies in Israeli patients with AS, compared with the general population. They also investigated risk factors for malignancy within the AS population.
